Sweet 16!

Well, we finally made it, Amy turned 16 on Monday.  The day went just as we planned.  I took off early from work and went over to Planet Hollywood to see if I could arrange the table she wanted.  Gina was the hostess and was very nice and said she would try her best to accommodate us.  Amy wanted the round booth at the back that were upholstered in zebra print.  Fun…

Then I went to buy decorations and a giant decorated cookie.  The Baker at Publix was so nice when I asked for a giant cookie, he made me one on the spot.  So when I went to pick it up it was freshly-baked, still warm from the oven.  I went home, put up the decorations and was done by the time Amy got home from school.  The excitement was building…

At around 4 p.m. all the girls were at the house getting ready.  Amy had asked everyone to dress up, so they all had on their LBD’s (Little Black Dress).  They all looked gorgeous, and we headed off to Pleasure Island.  We met up with Deanna, Daniel, Cameron and Erin at Planet Hollywood.  Our dinner couldn’t have been better, and Gina came through with the requests and Amy got exactly the table she was hoping for.  Deanna’s friend Jason was manager that night, so we also got another very nice perk, so to speak.

Then it was back to our house for the cookie, ice cream and presents.  All the girls changed into casual clothes when they got home (what would a party be if people didn’t have at least one outfit change in the middle?).  Everyone was pretty full after dinner, so they played with the Wii for a while.  That was when Lauren knocked Kristen upside the head in a game of tennis.  I think I need a bigger living room.  Too funny.

Finally they were ready for presents and dessert.  Amy’s friends got her just what she had hoped for, and it was great to see her so happy.  They didn’t quite devour the whole cookie, but came pretty darned close.  It was a school night, so the festivities were over by 9:30 p.m., which was just as planned.  I don’t think I’ve had a day go quite so well as this one!  I wish more could go like that.

Anyway, birthday part II comes a week from Friday when we go to Ft. Wilderness.  This weekend Amy’s taking the “Teen Driving Challenge” (Friday night and Saturday) and then on Saturday night/Sunday morning from midnight to 2 a.m. she’s going to help Heavenly Hoofs get set up for their fundraiser.  Then she and Tony are going to the fundraiser Sunday afternoon.  I’ll go too if we can get another ticket.  She might be able to get one for volunteering.  Otherwise, there are just the two from KUA that Tony won in a raffle.

I’m going to be busy this weekend at church, we’re announcing a new ministry where we are going to try to help resettle a refugee family.  It’s quite the process, and I can’t imagine what these people are going through just to live a normal life.  I hope we can help someone soon.  I had no idea that there were so many people in need out there.  We’ll make a small contribution.
